Fundraise:
FundraiseOnline enables individuals to raise money for their favourite charity. Its fun and easy. Supporters can now register an 'event' and receive donations from around the country, actually around the globe - internet - supporting the global community. This is a totally secure site that accepts most credit cards without the worry of disclosing details to third parties. Yes, its safe.
Whatever the event, no matter where it is, you can create a page, include information ie: about the event, the reason you are supporting a specific charity. Pages are easily created and they're a great way to connect with people locally, nationally, gloabally - this is a fantastic way to inspire, motivate and raise awareness along with much needed funds for charities.
To set up a page you will need to go to www.fundraiseonline.co.nz, click on “create a fundraising page”, choose an event from the list provided or scroll to the bottom of the page to create your own event.
If you need any help setting up your own fundraising page, just contact the office for technical assistance :)
Refund Lifted On Charitable Donations
The maximum refund limit has been lifted for charitable donations, so now you’ll be able to give more and still receive a refund.
Previously, no matter how much you donated, a $630 refund was the most you could get. This change means that next year when you complete your claim form, you can claim a refund (tax rebate) of one-third of every dollar you donate, up to the amount of your income.
Example
Kath donates $10,000 to charitable organisations. Her taxable income for the 2008-09 year is $40,000. Kath will be able to claim a refund of $3,333 which is one-third of her $10,000 donation.
In November 2009 IRD launched a new initiative where donations can be made via your employer and you receive the tax credit straight away rather than waiting for the end of the tax year and hoping you don't lose your receipt. For more info speak to your employer or, go to “News and updates” on IRD’s website www.ird.govt.nz.
